January, 2022

 The regular business meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse on Thursday January 13, 2022.

President Frank Lodge called the meeting to order at 1:30 PM.  There were approximately twenty (20) members attending with an untold number on Zoom.

Dave Tarditi led The Pledge of Allegiance and provided a prayer.

Minutes – Fred Willis

·        The minutes of the last Business Meeting, held on December 30, 2021, were read.  They were approved without changes.

·        The minutes of the last Board of Directors Meeting, held on January 6, 2022, were read. 

President’s Report – Frank Lodge/Roger Jacobs

·        Frank thanked the officers for their support throughout this past year. He also asked for an easy transfer to the new officers and Directors.

·        Frank presented the officers and Board of Directors for 2022.  After reading the duties of each position he asked the them to confirm they will execute the duties.  The club members verbally approved their election.

·        Pictures then were taken.

·        New President Roger Jacobs continued conducting the meeting.

·        Roger thanked Frank and past presidents for tutoring him for this position. He also thanked Al Schmidt for his video assistance throughout the year.

Treasurer’s Report – Hank Zaleski

·        Hank informed the members the number of unpaid members was reduced to ten (10).

·        The club’s assets at the end the year was within its historical normal range. The club is in good financial shape.

·        If approved, the club will spend about $2000 on video equipment this year.

·        January 20 – Mike Underwood - Don Wallace Collection of Tools in Greenfield Hall, Haddonfield Historical Society.

·        January 27 - Borough of Haddonfield Administrator, since 2016, Sharon McCullough

·        Joe received the phone list from Verizon. He will begin checking for possible club candidates.

·        Bill is still waiting to hear from SCUCS about a trip to see the Phillies

·        Bowling continues on Friday morning at 9:30 AM

·        Bridge continues on Monday, this week nine (9) played

·        Pinochle continues on Wednesday, this week nine (9) played

Chess – Fred Willis

·        Chess will be available today.

Tai Chi

·        There were two attendees this week The class is held Monday morning.

Old Business

·        A new refrigerator has been delivered.  Members had ice cream during the meeting to test the refrigerator’s freezing capacity.

New Business

·        Howard Rementer suggested the club spend some time on encouraging existing members to come to meetings and not just search for new members. How to reach out to existing members is the issue.  It was noted good speakers get good crowds.

·        A suggestion was made the club place ads in the local papers listing the speakers.

·        Another suggestion was the club maintain a library of videos of past speakers and use these in the event of a last-minute speaker cancelation.

Joke Master

Bill Brown, announced he had a joke but was waiting for a larger crowd.

December, 2021

 A business meeting was held on Thursday December 30 2021 which was held in the 65 Club clubhouse. The regular business meeting was not held on Thursday December 11 due to the club’s annual Christmas party being held that day. A last-minute speaker cancellation occurred for the December 30 meeting and in place of cancelling the meeting a business meeting was held.

President Frank Lodge was unable to attend due to being in quarantine caused by a possible Covid exposure.  First Vice President Roger Jacobs called the meeting to order at 1:30 PM.  There were approximately thirteen (13) members attending.

Dave Tarditi led The Pledge of Allegiance and provided a prayer.

·        The minutes of the last Business Meeting, held on November 11 2021, were read.  They were approved without changes.

·        The minutes of the last Board of Directors Meeting, held on December 6, 2021, were read. 

President’s Report – Frank Lodge

·        Roger Jacobs conducted the meeting in Frank’s absence.

·        Bernie Schaming was also in quarantine because of possible exposure to Covid.

·        Joe Galliera accepted the position of 2nd Vice President – Membership for 2022. Joe will be approved by the Directors at the January 6 BOD meeting and elected at the January 13 Business meeting.

Treasurer’s Report – Hank Zaleski

·        Hank was unable to attend due to recent eye surgery.

·        No report was presented.

·        Howard informed the club members there was a shuffleboard alley in the club’s back yard which needed repair to use. He suggested polling the members to determine if there was sufficient interest to justify spending money to repair the alley.

·        Roger asked for suggestions on speaker topics. Bill offered sports speakers are always popular.  These was no disagreement with this.

Joke Master

Four members, Walt Baker, Howard Rementer, Bill Brown and Bill Hoffman bravely stood and tried to tell a joke which would sink to a new low bad level.  Judging from the bored and horrified looks on the members faces each joke succeded. However, no one could tell which joke sunk the lowest so the four members were declared equal winners.

Vice President Roger Jacobs adjourned the meeting at 2:20 PM. Due to refrigerator problems no ice cream was calling

The regular business meeting was held on Thursday November 11 2021. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President Frank Lodge called the meeting to order at 1:30 PM.  There were approximately twenty (20) members attending.

Dave Tarditi led The Pledge of Allegiance and singing of The Star Spangled Banner.

Minutes – Fred Willis

·        The minutes of the last Business Meeting, held on September 9 2021, were read.  They were approved without changes.

·        The minutes of the last Board of Directors Meeting, held on November 4, 2021, were read. 

President’s Report – Frank Lodge

·        Frank introduced Harvey Shaw, a new club member. Harvey is a lifetime resident of Haddonfield and a long time Haddonfield volunteer fireman.

Treasurer’s Report – Hank Zaleski

·        Hank was unable to attend and Frank presented the treasurer’s report.

o   October income was about $2,900.  Expenses were about $1,700 with the stag luncheon and liability insurance being the largest expenses.

o   Dues summary to date.  57 paid, 67 unpaid, 46 exempt

Speakers – Roger Jacobs - 1st VP

·        November 18 - Charlene Creed – Haddonfield Historical Society will present the history of the Haddonfield Fire Company.

·        November 25 - Thanksgiving

·        December 2 – Frank Troy – Haddonfield Commissioner

·        Discussion with several possible members were going on.

·        Dave recommended a personal approach is required to encourage someone to join.

Event Committee Reports

Trips/Events - Bill Brown

·        No trips are planned. Bill is still waiting for someone to assume his position.

·        Wine and Cheese Social Party

o   This will be held at the Markheim Art Center on Saturday November 20 from 7-9 PM.

o   Jack Popard will provide the music.

o   Wives of deceased or incapacitated members may attend.

·        Christmas Party

o   This will be held at the Methodist Church on Thursday December 9 at 12:00 PM.

o   Music will be provided by the Pine Barrens quartet.

Friendship – Henry Leimkuhler

·        Cards and cookies will be sent to members in Nursing homes or known to be sick.  Henry could use some assistance on writing the cards.

Bowling – Walt Baker

·        Bowling continues on Friday morning at 9:30 AM

Bridge – Bernie Schaming

·        Bridge continues on Monday, this week twelve (12) played

·        Pinochle continues on Wednesday, this week ten (10) played

·        Chess will be available today.

Tai Chi

·        John Biondi finds it relaxing and physically usefully but is the only attendee. The class is held Monday morning.

New Business

·        Christmas – Red Kettle Assistance

o   The Acme will not allow any solicitation this year.

o   The Salvation Army offered two options to man the Red Kettle donations.  If the club want to remain in Haddonfield, the Red Kettle will be set up at the Haddonfield PATCO line from 4:30 – 6:45 PM one day a week.  The Kettle will be outside.

o   If the club wants to be inside, the Kettle will be set up at Macy’s in the Cherry Hill Mall.

o   The club voted to remain in Haddonfield and will man the Kettle on whatever day it is in Haddonfield.

·        Book Donations

o   A member noted the books from the club’s library were to be donated to the Kroc Center occasionally but no donations had been made for two years. Another member requested Novels be donated to the Mable Kay House.

Joke Master

Neil Wise volunteerd to be the joke master and played a tape from the website ~`Old Jews Telling Jokes’ The joke was bad but Frank thanked Neil anyway. John Biondi also volunteered and proved he could give an equally bad joke. He did not receive a Thank you though.

 The regular business meeting was held on Thursday September 9, 2021. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President Frank Lodge called the meeting to order at 1:30 PM.  There were approximately twenty (20) members attending.

Minutes – Fred Willis

·        The minutes of the last Business Meeting, held on August 12, 2021, were read.  They were approved without changes.

·        The minutes of the last Board of Directors Meeting, held on September 2, 2021 were read. 

President’s Report – Frank Lodge

·        Frank informed the members Bill Brown had fallen several days earlier and had severely injured himself.  He had broken several bones in his face and wrist and would not be attending meetings for several weeks.

·        Bill was the chief organizer for the Tavistock fall luncheon and member help was required to assist Bill.

Treasurer’s Report – Hank Zaleski

·        Hank informed the club dues paid 60% of the operating budget and the green jar paid 30%.  The remaining 10% was from miscellaneous sources. The current operating budget is about $5000 with about $700 of onetime expenses.

·        Chess will start today.

Several committees did not report due to limited time caused by melting ice cream.

Old Business

·        Flea Market

o   There is sufficient manpower to transport the articles to Archer on Saturday.

o   Additional manpower is required to unload the items on Saturday morning and to man the tables for selling.

o   Manpower is also required to pack up unsold items at 2:00 PM for donation to an organization by the Lions Club.

·        Fall Luncheon

o   Payment for the fall (Stag) luncheon should be sent directly to Hank along with the food selection. All reservations must be prepaid. Dues for 2022 are also requested.

o   Luncheon cost and selection will be published in the October Newsletter.

o   The Borough commissioners and administrator will be invited to the fall luncheon.

Joke Master

Due to melting ice cream a joke master was not required.  The membership seemed to feel relieved.

·        The minutes of the last Board of Directors Meeting, held on August 5, 2021 and conducted in the clubhouse, were read.

·        Frank informed the members John Petrozzi was attending today.

Treasurer’s Report – Hank Zaleski

·        Hank was unable to attend therefore there was no financial report.

·        Dave Trditti reported that one third of the club income is from the Green Jar contributions.

·        A plan to ‘adopt a neighbor’ to introduce them to the club will be presented soon

Health and Welfare – Henry Leimkuhler

·        The clubs’ next door neighbor informed the club it appeared birds were building a nest in some aspects of the roof.  Frank Lodge investigated and discovered a nest was built in some piping.  The nest must be removed but it is unnecessary to do so until the bird eggs are hatched.  The nest will be removed at that time.

·        Dennis Kille is in the hospital.

·        Don Beck, who was subjected to an extensive quarantine, was seen in an Acme. 

Trips - Bill Brown

·        No trips are planned.

·        Bill is stepping down from being trip planner and is waiting for someone to assume his position.

Bowling – Walt Baker

·        Five members are still bowling on Friday morning

Chess – Fred Willis

·        Chess will start on Thursday September 9 after the Business meeting.

·        Chess set donations are welcomed.

Tai Chi –

·        This has started and meets Monday morning at 9:30.

Old Business

·        The 65 club will participate in the Lions Club’ September 11 Flea Market. Items for sale may be brought to the clubhouse.  The items must be clean and not broken junk.

New Business

·        Dave Tarditi reported a new Club liability insurance policy had been approved by the insurance company.  Dave was waiting for the policy so Tim Barnes could make the final check and Hank could write the check.  The new policy fills some liability gaps regarding car use on club events, increased liability amount coverage and insurance company defense of law suits.

·        The fall festival status is unknown at best and cancelled at worse.

·        American Legion Post 38 will sponsor a barbecue on Monday August 16.  Contact Dave Tarditi for details.

·        Post 38 will sponsor a 5K run on December 11 to support a program to help unemployed, homeless veterans.  The program has an 86% success rate

·        Al Schmidt informed the members about an App, called Docket, to provide proof of COVID vaccination.

Joke Master

Neil Wise and John Cokos engaged in a battle of jokes to save us from questions. The members greatly appreciated their jokes even if the adjective Good did not remotely apply to them
