The regular business meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse on Thursday January 12, 2023.

President Roger Jacobs called the meeting to order at 1:30 PM.  There were approximately twenty-three (23) members attending with an untold number on Zoom.

Dave Tarditi led The Pledge of Allegiance and provided a prayer. John Cokos led the members in singing God Bless America

Minutes – Fred Willis

·       The minutes of the last Business Meeting, held on November 10, 2022, were read.  They were approved without changes.

·       The minutes of the last Board of Directors Meeting, held on January 5, 2023, were read. 

President’s Report –Roger Jacobs/David Tarditi

·       Roger thanked everyone for their support throughout this past year. He specifically thanks his predecessor Frank Lodge for his guidance and counsel throughout his three years as an officer.

·       Roger presented the officers and three new members of the Board of Directors for 2023.

·       After reading the duties of each position he asked the them to confirm they will execute the duties.  The club members verbally approved their election.

·       New President David Tarditi continued conducting the meeting.

·       Dave mentioned next week’s speaker would be very important in finding new members.  He also stated the club is a social club and its purpose is to provide a social meeting area for retired men.

Treasurer’s Report – Hank Zaleski

·       Hank informed the members there was an influx of dues last week. However, the number of unpaid members was still 50-60.

·       Speakers are booked through the middle of April

·       Joe Galliera will assume the position today.

Membership – Joe Galliera – 2^nd VP

·       Joe received a new name as a possible member.  He will pass it on to his replacement Chuck Kanupke.

Event Committee Reports

Trips/Events - Bill Brown

·       A trip to Spring Lake for a show on Broadway Shows is scheduled for either April 4 or 5.  This will be by carpool.  Sign up is now occurring.

·       Bill has discovered a new bus company called Betsey Bee’s. This company does not require a 40-person bus guarantee.  There are several trips available. Contact Bill for additional information.

·       On January 24 there will be a trip to Urban Promise. This will be by carpool

·       On January 24 9:00 am at Mabel Kay, a member, Doug Rauschenberger will give a presentation on the history of gas stations and Automobile dealerships in Haddonfield.

New Business

·       Five new officers and three new board members were installed.  See comments under President remarks.

·       Incoming Membership VP Chuck Kanupke gave a brief summary of some ideas he has to attract and interest members. Meeting attendees expressed their thoughts and support for Open House meet/greet events. To host outdoor proceedings at the Club so wives and significant others can attend in casual occasions to increase familiarity with members and to assist in new participant recruiting affairs

o   Any members with ideas contact Chuck.

·       Former President John Cokos suggested having an existing member be the contact point for a new member to learn about the club

Joke Master

Roger bid good bye to the club as President with a joke about squirrels, it was a good joke. After numerous tries he finally got it right.

President’s Report – Roger Jacobs

·        Today is the birthday of the founding of the United States Marine Corp.

·        Tomorrow is Veterans Day and Roger and Dave informed the members of several locations having celebrations.

·        The members were informed a 2^nd VP for next years officers is still required. The person must be a Haddonfield resident or a Special Guest member. A Volunteer is requested.

 Treasurer’s Report – Hank Zaleski

·        Income for the year has exceed budget by $600.

·        Expenses for the year are about $2000 below estimates due to the delay in purchasing video equipment. The club is in good financial shape.

·        The recently purchased I-Bonds are paying 9% for the first six months. They have replaced CD’s that were paying 0.2%

Speakers – David Tarditi - 1^st VP

·        Dave reported that that last week’s speaker on car washes was very impressed with club and will provide a free carwash to each member who attended the meeting.

·        Speakers are scheduled through the end of the year and into January.

·        Wine for the November 12 Wine and Cheese Party has been purchased.

·        The Christmas party trip to Spring Lake was cancelled due to low turnout. There were only nine (9) signups and the club had to guarantee 40 attendees.

·        A dinner and show carpool trip to Spring Lake may be set up.

·        Bill informed the members the Trip Director job is still open and waiting for a volunteer to fill it.

Turkey Trot

·        Sixteen (16) members have volunteered to monitor the 5K run on November 26.  Additional monitors are requested.

Red Kettle Salvation Army

·        There are time slots still open on December 16. Volunteers are requested.

Borough Facility Electronic Scheduling System

·        Bernie has been working with the borough to learn how to operate the new scheduling System. There are glitches in the system.  At this time, progress is being made but the system is failing to operate quickly and easily. Bernie will continue to work with the borough.

Joke Master

Neil Weiss was this week’s joke master.  He scared off Roger.  Neil’s joke was good and funny, members even laughed; Neil should quit while he is ahead.

President Roger Jacobs called the meeting to order at 1:30 PM.  There were nineteen (19) members attending.

·        Mayor’s Wellness Day – The Lion’s 5K run/1mile walk were discussed as part of this event. Volunteers are needed. Bill Brown also mentioned the blood drive.

·        In addition to the comments made at the September BOD meeting, Hank reported that assuming the Flea Market is successful, the club should hit its forecasted receipts for 2022.

Event Committee Reports

Trips/Events - Bill Brown

·        Bill reported that the river cruise is full with 40 people registered. Table seating has been done at the request of the Tour Company

·        Bill will be meeting with Kunkels next week to finalize the details of the Fall Luncheon. The Club will provide wine and beer. Cost will be built into the fee. Jay Cokos is working with Tim Barnes who generously is donating some Spirits for the occasion. Our confirmed speaker is Dickie Noles, former Phillies pitcher and now a Counselor.

·        Saul Resnick is still recovering

Golf –

·        The annual Masters Tourney was held on September 7^th. Butch Brees won low gross for the 7^th consecutive year. Newcomer Craig Evans won the low net.

 

 

Bowling – Walt Baker

·        Bowling continues on Friday morning at 9:30 AM. There are 6-8 attendees weekly. The price may go up slightly soon.

Bridge – Bernie Schaming

·        The Tourney starts this Monday

·        John Biondi reported that attendance has picked up with 7 folks attending the last session.

Old Business

Flea Market Saturday September 10.

·        Bernie Schaming reported that he has received 25 calls from folks donating goods. This is in comparison to 4-6 historically.

·        Donations are greater this year than in the past.

·        Bernie is looking for a lot of assistance to pack the goods on Friday afternoon at 3.00 pm and deliver the flea market items to the tables very early Saturday morning.

·        Volunteers are essential to man the tables on Saturday.  Just show up. It is a fun day!

·        A number of members recognized both Bernie and Betsy for the fantastic effort and time they put into this annual event, cleaning, researching and pricing the donations to be sold.

·        There appears to be some optimism that last year’s record of $1167.25 could be broken.

 

Fall Festival Saturday October 10

·        The details are in place. More discussion on this event will occur after the flea market is behind us.

Joke Master

Jay Cokos told a rather lengthy joke about a 6-story building in Miami. It must have been funny and interesting as no one was seen sleeping while he told it and some people laughed at the end.

·        Bill described a trip to the Merchant Marine Museum in Camden.  It was a comical event because the reservation was made at a Merchant Marine Museum in New York.  It will become a classic 65 Club story.

·        Bill in investigating a possible trip to the Borgata Casino which will be by train to Atlantic City.

·        Bill is also investigating a bus trip to Tom’s River for a paddle boat cruise.

Flea Market September 10

·        Bernie Schaming and Neil Wise have collected seven (7) donations from the public.

·        Dave Tarditi will arrange to provide five tables.

·        Bernie is looking for assistance to deliver the flea market items to the tables on Saturday morning.

·        Volunteers are essential to man the tables on Saturday.  Just show up. It is a fun day.

Fall Festival October 10

·        The 65 Club passed the mayor’s rule for entertainment.

·        Volunteers are required.

·        Joe Galliera is developing a signup sheet for manning the table.

Flag Cleaning

·        Howard arranged to have a local dry cleaner clean the club’s American flag for free. 

New Business

·        John Biondi thanked Carl’s Sunoco for some excellent service on his twenty (20) year old car. Carl’s Sunoco recently made a $650 donation to the 65 Club.

·        Bernie informed the members the wife of John Thomas, a former member who assisted Bernie in renovating the clubhouse and had died several years ago, had moved to Gettysburg and had celebrated her 98^th birthday.

 

Joke Master

Craig Evans and Roger Jacobs each told jokes in an attempt to ruin a perfectly nice meeting.  They almost succeeded.

Joke Master Rules for the 65 Club

·        The members must listen closely to the secretary making his dull and boring presentation of his dull and boring minutes. This makes the jokes sound better.

·        Only three types of jokes are permitted. Bad, worse and those that should never be told again.

·        Joke Master evaluation will be based on `No Good Deed Goes Unpunished’

 The regular business meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse on Thursday July 14, 2022.

President Roger Jacobs called the meeting to order at 1:30 PM.  There were approximately twenty (20) members attending with several on Zoom.

Minutes – Fred Willis

·        The major points of minutes of the last Business Meeting, held on April 14, 2021, were read.  They were approved without changes.

·        The major points of the minutes of the May and June Board of Directors Meetings were read.

·        The minutes of the last Board of Directors Meeting, held on July 7, 2022, were read. 

President’s Report – Roger Jacobs

·        Roger thanked Frank Lodge for planning and organizing the 65 Club entry in the July 4 parade.

·        Two new club members introduced themselves.  They were

o   John Reed who had recently moved to Cherry Hill from Louisiana.

o   Joseph Kiernan, an architect, who was interested in bowling.

·        The Fall Festival will be held October 8 on Kings Highway between Tanner Street and Haddon Avenue.  The Club will participate in the event. Volunteers are required to set up and man the club table.  Also, the borough is requiring each organization to provide some sort of entertainment.  The club requires some suggestions and assistance with this.

·        Roger informed the club that former 65 Club President Bill Brown had been elected President of the Haddonfield Lions Club.

 Treasurer’s Report – Hank Zaleski

·        The $650 donation from Carl’s Sunoco and the expected income from the September Flea Market should provide sufficient income for the remainder of this year’s budget.

·        The effect of inflation is becoming a significant factor in the remaining budget expenditures.

Speakers – David Tarditi - 1^st VP

·        Dave reported speakers are booked through the first week of August.  He needs more. There are six weeks unscheduled in August and September.

Membership – Joe Galliera – 2^nd VP

·        Joe was unable to attend the meeting.

·        Roger stated there were three potential members for Joe to contact. The three had attended the 65 Club June 9 Sunoco 65^th celebration meeting and signed in as guests.

·        Bill has resumed the position of organizing trips.  However, a replacement must still be found in the future.

·        He will resume planning trips since the pandemic is receding.

Flea Market

·        Club and public donations are welcomed.

·        Public donations will be advertised in two local newspapers.

·        Contributions may be brought to the clubhouse in August.

Green Jar

·        Bill provided a detailed description and example showing how to make a contribution to the Green Jar.

New Business

·        Howard will investigate if a dry cleaner will clean an American flag for free.  The club’s flag has become dirty.

·        The club received a Thank You note from member George Tice who lives in Rochester New York and recently turned 104. The club sent him cookies as a presnt.

·         Bill Hoffman informed the club his Grandson is very artistic and recently made a sketch of Bill. The sketch was sent to Congressman Andy Kim and is on display In the House of Representatives.

Joke Master

Neil Wise and Roger Jacobs each told a joke in a battle to the bottom. The members listened, laughed and refused to select a loser because it would delay getting their ice cream.
