 The regular business meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse on Thursday June 8, 2023.

President David Tarditi called the meeting to order at 1:30 PM. There were twenty (20) members

attending in person and an unknown number on Zoom.

Dave led The Pledge of Allegiance and provided a prayer. Walt Baker led the members in singing God

Treasurer’s Report – Hank Zaleski

 No report was made because Hank was unable to attend. The BOD meeting minutes of June 1

discusses the club’s finances.

Event Committee Reports

 Bowling, golf, pinochle and bridge continue.

 Bernie informed the member bridge lessons are going well. At least two (2) members are

becoming good players.

 Friendship - Henry Leimkuhler

o Henry informed the members Boone Gallager had passed away. His funeral will be June

17.

Trips/Events - Bill Brown

 No report was made due to Bill’s continued absence. He is currently in rehab.

 Steve Anderson has assumed the trip/event responsibility in Bill’s absence.

Old Business

4 th of July Parade – report by Frank Lodge and Chuck Kanupke

 The parade theme will be honoring service dogs.

o Some of the service the dogs provide for individuals are for sight and PTSD.

o Organization support includes Search and Rescue, Military and Homeland security.

 Chuck has been asking individuals and organizations to bring a dog and walk in the parade with

the 65 club. Several have accepted the invitation.

 Club mascot Ty will lead the 65 club parade entry.

 The 65 club will provide lunch for the dog owners who march and dog treats for the dogs.

 The lunch will be provided by the Lions club who will be reimbursed by the 65 Club.

 Parking spots for the dog owners will be reserved spots behind borough hall. The police have

agreed to allow parking in reserved spaces.

 The Parade is also a PR event for the 65 Club. Baseball size cards will be printed by the club or

an outside printing shop. These cards will include a picture of Ty and information on the 65 club.

They will be handed out during the parade.

 Frank and Chuck will provide a cost estimate of the additional parade activities to Dave Tarditi.

Dave will presnt the cost estimate to the BOD for approval before the parade

Skirmish

 Roger Jacob described the Skirmish attracted between 5000-6000 attendees. This was down

from last year’s count by design.

 By instructions from the state, there was no canon firing.

 The Haddonfield police assistance was great.

New Business

Coffee and Conversation

 Jack Landris described a new club event starting on June 9. There will be a member’s meeting at

the Mable Kay House to discuss whatever issues and stories they desire. This is just a get

together meeting.

Retirement Transition

 Chuck and Steve are developing a new ongoing event to assist new retirees to transition to

retirement. This will be presented to the BOD for approval before being announced.

Joke Master

Neil Wise stepped forward as the joke master even though he was on zoom. Neil told a joke about a wife

who was believed to be bad luck, the joke was good but the best part was the connection was scratchy and

parts of the presentation were basically unintelligible.

President’s Report –/David Tarditi

 Dave thanked the membership for the great turnout for the Meet & Greet. Despite the weather,

the event was well-attended and led to 10 new members joining the Club.

Speakers – Joe Galliera - 1st VP

 Stephanie B(?) from the Board of Education will be next week’s speaker. Frank Troy is on for the

following week. Speakers are scheduled out through mid-June. Joe did say he could use some

more speakers. A couple of suggestions were made during that discussion.

Membership – Chuck Kanupke – 2 nd VP

 Chuck thanked everyone for their great support for the Meet and Greet. Ten (10) new members

joined as a result.

 Chuck would like to run another in the Fall with a focus on some activities outside the

clubhouse. Potentially a BBQ and/or Corn Hall Game.

 Several ideas were suggested to build off the momentum of the M&G to continue to attract new

members.

Treasurer’s Report – Hank Zaleski

 Hank informed the members that over $500 in receipts were taken and over $1000 in expenses in

March. A new line item for New Members Activities has been added to track those costs.

 Six (6) members have not paid their 2023 dues. Bernie reported that he needs to know who will be

dropped from the Club before next Wednesday so the Directory can be updated/printed in time for

distribution at the Spring Luncheon

Event Committee Reports

 Bowling, golf, pinochle and bridge continue.

 Bernie will be giving Bridge lessons starting on April 17 th . At least 4 people have signed up.

 John Biondi reported that Tai-chi will be stopped due to lack of interest

Trips/Events - Bill Brown

 Bill reported that the Spring Lake trip went well. He was a little disappointed in the accounting.

The Club had to subsidize the trip to the amount of 60 cents.

 A number of 65 club members joined the Lion’s club Mystery trip.

 Bill is planning a trip tour the Phillies stadium with lunch at Kunkels on August 1.

Old Business

 Bill Hoffman thanked Bill Brown for how quickly the handi-cap ramp was completed.

New Business

 Roger Jacob mentioned that they are looking for volunteers for the day of the Skirmish

 He also reported that there is a 7-part lecture series starting soon on the history of the Skirmish.

Joke Master

Neil Wise returned from Florida and promptly stepped forward as the joke master. He told a joke about a reincarnated rabbit on a golf course. The members must have enjoyed it as Neil stayed for ice cream and  was not asked to go back to Florida.

·       Chuck informed the members only one member responded to the Meet and Greet invitation of March 11.  Bernie said this was typical.

·       Chuck believes the club is fighting the perception that  people do not want to attend events any more. The club members must convince their wives to attend events when possible and to support events.

·       Henry Leimkuhler noted Meet and Greet attendance may be decreased because a member’s funeral was being held at the same time.

·       A new member application has been received.  The applicant is Bill Bittle a golfer.

Old Business

Spring Luncheon 

·       Dave led an extensive discussion, which involved several members, on the spring luncheon location.

·       Bill Brown informed the Directors and the members Tavistock had reopened for luncheons but was restricting the attendees to 100 due to ongoing renovations.  This presented a problem because before the pandemic hit the normal spring luncheon had 120 attendees. For this year former Phillie Dickie Noles is the speaker and  it is believed he will attract attendees.

·       Dave Tarditi contacted Il Villaggio as an alternative to Tavistock. Il Villaggio said it would provide space for 120 people but the cost would be increase from $33 to $46 per person.

·       Dave and Bill presented the advantages of each location.

·       Dave contacted the Directors before the business meeting and the Directors voted 11 to 2 to switch the spring luncheon to Il Villaggio. The advantage of higher attendance was deemed more important than the effect of the higher price.

·       There was some objection to the last minute change because the Directors had only a few hours to make a decision and without a meeting for discussion.

·       A $225 deposit has been placed with Tavistock and it is hoped it will be returned.

 

New Business

Housekeeping

·       One member was extremely upset about the way the housekeeping changes were being implemented. He believed the changes were being implemented too quickly and without proper input from the Directors. In particular, he thought the club TV sale was handled improperly.

o   The member also stated he felt there was a lack of comradery slowly permeating the club.

o   This comment prompted other members to express concerns about the club’s purpose as a social club.

o   Some members believe all meetings have become business meetings instead of social gatherings. This feeling is due to the weekly reporting of the different events.

o   There was discussion on all of these concerns and issues but no resolution on any of them.

·       Bernie presented a list of proposals suggested by the housekeeping committee who had met Thursday morning.

o   Only one proposal is being acted upon at this time. The club’s library is being removed.  Books have been selected by the Mabel Kay House and most of the remaining books will be sent to the Croc Center in Camden.

o   It is expected the remaining proposals will be submitted to the Directors for discussion and review.

 

Joke Master

Walt Baker stepped forward as the joke master. He told a good joke so well that when he finished it the members did not know what to do. A good joke was so rare that they sat in silence for a few seconds then realized they were supposed to laugh, which they did.

Mascot

·       The 65 Club new mascot, Tyrone the service dog, attended today’s meeting. He was brought by Chuck Kanupke. Ty’s major purpose is to attend events and attract nonmembers to begin a discussion with members about the club. Attracting new members is a continual concern and activity of the club. To attract more interest in the club, the club is trying to inform town residents more about the club.

Urban Promise

·       Dave is setting up a committee to study ways the club can assist Urban Promise. Several suggestions were made; however, some require training and a serious commitment. The club must not rush into this activity is the general consensus.

Treasurer’s Report – Hank Zaleski

·       Hank informed the members the income for January was about $800. Approximately ten (10) additional members paid their 2023 dues and about thirty (30) are still unpaid.

 

Speakers – Joe Galliera - 1st VP

·       Speakers are booked until the end of May

·       Next week the subject will be on the history of the Monitor and Merrimack battle in the Civil war.  The following week will be a college baseball umpire.

·       Chuck introduced new member Jack Cotter.

·       Several Meet and Greet events are being planned for the spring.

·       Chuck and other board members will meet with David Hunter of the Haddonfield Sun to discuss some methods to improve knowledge of the club throughout the borough.

Trips/Events - Bill Brown

·       A trip to Spring Lake for a show on Broadway Shows is scheduled for April 4.  Transportation will be by carpool.  Sign up is now occurring.

·       Bill talked to several bus companies about cost for future trips.  The cost per person to use a bus range from $100 to $150 per person for a trip.

·       The Haddonfield Lions will have a Mystery tour on April 11 which will use a school bus. Depending upon demand, this may be open to 65 club members.  Cost will be $50 per person.  Check the website for possible sign up.

·       The borough Fire Marshal inspected the clubhouse this week.  Batteries must be replaced on some signs and a Carbon Monoxide sensor must be installed. Bernie will handle these two actions.

Joke Master

Neal Wise and Dave Tarditi engaged in a spirited battle to tell the best joke.  Both lost.

·       Roger thanked everyone for their support throughout this past year. He specifically thanks his predecessor Frank Lodge for his guidance and counsel throughout his three years as an officer.

·       Roger presented the officers and three new members of the Board of Directors for 2023.

·       After reading the duties of each position he asked the them to confirm they will execute the duties.  The club members verbally approved their election.

·       New President David Tarditi continued conducting the meeting.

·       Dave mentioned next week’s speaker would be very important in finding new members.  He also stated the club is a social club and its purpose is to provide a social meeting area for retired men.

·       Five new officers and three new board members were installed.  See comments under President remarks.

·       Incoming Membership VP Chuck Kanupke gave a brief summary of some ideas he has to attract and interest members. Meeting attendees expressed their thoughts and support for Open House meet/greet events. To host outdoor proceedings at the Club so wives and significant others can attend in casual occasions to increase familiarity with members and to assist in new participant recruiting affairs

o   Any members with ideas contact Chuck.

·       Former President John Cokos suggested having an existing member be the contact point for a new member to learn about the club

Joke Master

Roger bid good bye to the club as President with a joke about squirrels, it was a good joke. After numerous tries he finally got it right.

·        Today is the birthday of the founding of the United States Marine Corp.

·        Tomorrow is Veterans Day and Roger and Dave informed the members of several locations having celebrations.

·        The members were informed a 2^nd VP for next years officers is still required. The person must be a Haddonfield resident or a Special Guest member. A Volunteer is requested.

 Treasurer’s Report – Hank Zaleski

·        Income for the year has exceed budget by $600.

·        Expenses for the year are about $2000 below estimates due to the delay in purchasing video equipment. The club is in good financial shape.

·        The recently purchased I-Bonds are paying 9% for the first six months. They have replaced CD’s that were paying 0.2%

·        Dave reported that that last week’s speaker on car washes was very impressed with club and will provide a free carwash to each member who attended the meeting.

·        A dinner and show carpool trip to Spring Lake may be set up.

·        Bill informed the members the Trip Director job is still open and waiting for a volunteer to fill it.

Borough Facility Electronic Scheduling System

·        Bernie has been working with the borough to learn how to operate the new scheduling System. There are glitches in the system.  At this time, progress is being made but the system is failing to operate quickly and easily. Bernie will continue to work with the borough.

·        In addition to the comments made at the September BOD meeting, Hank reported that assuming the Flea Market is successful, the club should hit its forecasted receipts for 2022.

Trips/Events - Bill Brown

·        Bill reported that the river cruise is full with 40 people registered. Table seating has been done at the request of the Tour Company

·        Bill will be meeting with Kunkels next week to finalize the details of the Fall Luncheon. The Club will provide wine and beer. Cost will be built into the fee. Jay Cokos is working with Tim Barnes who generously is donating some Spirits for the occasion. Our confirmed speaker is Dickie Noles, former Phillies pitcher and now a Counselor.

Golf –

·        The annual Masters Tourney was held on September 7^th. Butch Brees won low gross for the 7^th consecutive year. Newcomer Craig Evans won the low net.

·        Bowling continues on Friday morning at 9:30 AM. There are 6-8 attendees weekly. The price may go up slightly soon.

·        John Biondi reported that attendance has picked up with 7 folks attending the last session.

Old Business

Flea Market Saturday September 10.

·        Bernie Schaming reported that he has received 25 calls from folks donating goods. This is in comparison to 4-6 historically.

·        Donations are greater this year than in the past.

·        Bernie is looking for a lot of assistance to pack the goods on Friday afternoon at 3.00 pm and deliver the flea market items to the tables very early Saturday morning.

·        Volunteers are essential to man the tables on Saturday.  Just show up. It is a fun day!

·        A number of members recognized both Bernie and Betsy for the fantastic effort and time they put into this annual event, cleaning, researching and pricing the donations to be sold.

·        There appears to be some optimism that last year’s record of $1167.25 could be broken.
